Mysterious Edinburgh

Edinburgh has two distinct personalities. The city itself was partly the inspiration for the novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. To the North of Princes Street lies the  modern, clean, bright and spacious New Town. To the South, clinging to the side of Castle Rock and the ridge of the Royal mile it the old, quirky, cramped, dark and mysterious Old Town with its closes and wynds, graveyards and secret gardens.

Ukelele Cabaret

I was invited by Tricity Vogue to photograph her Ukelele Cabaret at the Three Sisters, Cowgate, Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010.

Despite the tickets being free, the evening was packed full of talented, funny performers, most of whom played Ukelele. About 90 percent of the audience had brought Ukeleles with them and joined in at the appropriate points. Tricity Vogue was an excellent compere, but the highlight of the show for me was Mat Ricardo of “Three Balls and a Nice Suit” fame who demonstrated the noble art of juggling. Juggling as it should be done. Not like you see on the street during the festival. A sophisticated display of cigar box juggling, cigar and wine glass balancing accompanied by razor-sharp wit.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2011

Edinburgh knows how to kick-start the new year! four days of incredible events and crowds from all over the world who flock to the city for the biggest New Year celebrations anywhere on the globe.

Around seventy thousand people see in the new year at the street party on Princes Street, thousands more crowd onto Calton Hill to see the spectacular firework display over Edinburgh Castle and National Monument. The evening before new year sees a torchlit parade from the old town to Calton Hill led by Vikings from Shetland. The evening culminates with the ceremonial burning of a Viking Longboat on the edge of the hill overlooking the Firth of Forth.

Just amazing!

Shrink – The Outrageous Hypnotist

Shrink brought his outrageous and not-for-the-easily-offended hypnosis show back to the HMV Picture House in Edinburgh for a night of late night lunacy. Hypnotising a large part of the audience and pulling some brave volunteers onto stage where they found themselves in some hilarious and pften embarassing situations.

The photographs are now being used in Shrink’s latest promotional material.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle in the snow

Edinburgh Castle in the snow

Edinburgh Castle is a castle fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, from its position atop the volcanic Castle Rock.  There has been a royal castle here since at least the 12th century, and the site was a royal residence until the Union of the Crowns in 1603.  From the later 17th century, the castle became a military base, with a large garrison.  -from Wikipedia
